Islamic religious solitude (Itikaf) is a reli-gio-mystical pratice that was long in use im many pre-Islamic religious traditions. In this regard, there are certain Divine indications in the Holy Quran, e.g., in the Sura al-Bagarah
[۲]: ۱۲۵, where Allah directs Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Isma ‘il (Ishmael).
In the Islamic religion,there were Prophetic conducts such that the Prophet Muhammad would always spend thelast ten days of every Ramadan in the mosque. He asserted that everybody who observes i tikaf out of certi tude all their sins would be forgiven.
In the light of the above remarks, the three-day i tikaf practice aims to liberate people from their selfish desires and lead them to a higher religious mode of life.
